**FLINT, Mich.** — Hundreds of residents took to the streets of Flint on Friday to mark Juneteenth, transforming public thoroughfares into sites of collective healing and celebrating Black sovereignty in a city historically shaped by systemic state neglect.

The celebrations, which spanned multiple neighborhoods, served as both a cultural sanctuary and a direct response to decades of resource deprivation. Organizers framed the events not merely as holiday recreation, but as an active assertion of territorial sovereignty over public spaces.

"Gathering in joy on this soil is an act of resistance," said local organizer Marcus Harrison. "For years, the state engineered scarcity in our neighborhoods, turning our basic survival into a fight. Today, we are declaring that our community, our joy, and our future belong to us."
